Open Letter to Fish on Bass Anglers:
As one of the founding members of FOBA, I am compelled to address this open letter to all current and past club members. Recently, my family has made the decision to relocate to Central Florida to be closer to our son and daughter-in-law, who recently welcomed a baby boy named Theo and are expecting another child in October 2025. Many of you may recall that my son Mitchell joined the club at the young age of 14, which required an amendment to our club bylaws and a membership vote. Additionally, my late father, Richard (Dick) Greene, was a longtime club member and served on the Board of Directors. It's worth noting that my father's ashes were scattered in Gaston Lake - Lizard Creek, near our current official launch area.
These personal connections underscore my profound gratitude to FOBA for over two decades of competition, camaraderie, and lasting friendships. While our transition to Florida is straightforward, parting ways with FOBA and all my friends and competitors is proving to be more challenging than anticipated. I will genuinely miss the victories, defeats, and friendly rivalries with Logan Summers, Chris Hawkins, and others I've had the privilege to compete against. FOBA has played an integral role in shaping my experiences, and I attribute my knowledge of fishing, boater safety, and other essential skills to this organization. The culture of information sharing within FOBA sets it apart from many other fishing organizations, a distinction I'll greatly appreciate as I navigate new waters in Florida.
I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to key club members who have enriched the FOBA experience for all of us:
- Sam McDowell: Your dedication has been the cornerstone of our club's success.
- Greg Snider: Your leadership in tournament organization has been exemplary.
- Logan Summers, Jeff Wible, Tim Miles & Zack Showman: Your contributions to the club and friendship have been invaluable.
A special note of thanks goes to Laura Greene, who has shown remarkable patience and support throughout my involvement with FOBA.
Looking ahead, I intend to maintain my annual membership and return each year for the first Spring two-day event, preferably at Gaston, Smith Mountain, or Lake Kerr. To all FOBA members, please know that you have an open invitation to visit us in Central Florida. We'll have two bass boats ready for your use, or you're welcome to bring your own rig and enjoy a safe harbor at our home.
Always remember: "It's always about the fishing."
With sincere appreciation and respect,
Greg Greene (AKA Fish boy)
