Recap

This year’s FOBA Upper Bay tournament launched out of Lapidum boat ramp in Havre de Grace, Maryland.  Conditions were hot and partly cloudy with light winds for most of the tournament day. At the start of the tournament, the fishery was at low tide and water clarity was dependent on location.  The Susquehanna and other tributaries were stained or muddy, but there were also some clear areas peppered throughout the expansive grass flats. There were no magic spots on this day and many anglers reported having to run and gun to find scattered fish in everything from grass on the flats to docks in marinas.  By the numbers, this event turned out to be one of the toughest events all year on the FOBA schedule.

Junk fishing was the name of the game on this tough day because the top three finishers in the boater division fished a variety of lures to fill their limits.  That included topwater frogs, bladed jigs, spinnerbaits, finesse worms, jerkbaits, and swimbaits. Logan Summers won with a limit of fish weighing 10 pounds, 3 ounces which included a lunker fish weighing 3-15.  Mark Lim finished in second place with 9 pounds, 5 ounces and John Liljestrand finished in third with 8 pounds even.

On the co-angler side Zach Showman was victorious with a bag weighing 10 pounds, 6 ounces including big fish for the day at 5 pounds, 4 ounces.  The giant fish was caught on a finesse worm presentation in deeper water around bait fish activity. Joe Homick and Fred Matos rounded out the top three with bags weighing 9-11 and 7-13, respectively.
