The sights and sounds of boats blasting off in the morning were refreshing following back to back trolling motor tournaments on Piney Run Reservoir. Water temps at Lake Anna were around 80 degrees even though it was the first week of October. Conditions were fairly tough with cloudy skies and no wind to speak of all day. This made finesse fishing the predominant tactic for most competitors. A drop shot rig fished in deep water along channel swings or bluff walls was the key to getting the right bites and finishing in the top three for this event. Throwing topwater lures to capitalize on the morning bite and skipping baits under docks also produced good keeper fish.
On the boater side, Jeff Wible won with a bag weighing 11 pounds, 6 ounces. Sam McDowell finished second with 9 pounds, 15 ounces and Joe Pautler was third with 9 pounds, 3 ounces. Marty Richards was awarded lunker bass in the boater division with a fish weighing 4-2.
In the co-angler division, Zack Showman won with a weight of 8 pounds, 11 ounces, Grant Buttrey finished in second with 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and Adam Simpson finished in third with 6 pounds. There was no lunker weighed in on the co-angler side.
