Chickahominy River Pick Tournamemt

I am a co-angler looking to pair up for the Chickahominy River Tournament. Does anyone need a co-angler for Chickahominy?

kevin, our only pick your partner tourneys are gaston and the 2nd deep creek; just get on the list and you'll be paired up if you paid soon enough.

maybe something changed; however, my notes on the calendar we originally made for the tourneys have the chick as a draw tourney. i guess we'll have to ask the tournament director.

All.

Sorry for the confusion on this one. I do have it on the schedule as a pick your partner tournament since the Chick is a three hour drive and will mean overnight accommodations, etc. So, yes it is a pick your partner tournament.

Kevin, my son Zack is not coming down, so if you want to pair up, you can be my netter. If you want. We can talk about old times!

Hope I get off work.I spent uncountless days weeks months and years fishing the Chick.Started fishing there heavy in 1974. Later when my old man retired he ran Ed Allens fish camp. We owned a double wide on Johnson creek,If I could lock up into Chick Lake for Tourney look out! AAAHHH Swamp conditions and Cypress knees. Best memory, watched my father take a 8lb 12oz Pig Bass while flyrodding for panfish with superlight tackle,I havent been back since Dad passed away but would like to now if nothing else just for the memorys.Tight Lines Pop!

No locking into the lake any more. At least as of last year, the dam is broken and the lake down to river level. Not sure if it's been fixed yet although I suspect not.

You guys get a unique challenge on the river. I've never seen a tidal river where you can sit a 7' MH heavy (that's a rod length not a cast length) off of a cypress tree that has dry land on the back side of it and the boat in 40' of water. There are good fish there but the bite has changed significantly since it's heyday 15 years ago or so. Hurricane Isabel did some real damage both to the fishery and to the spawn, it's been down significantly. Plus, the loss of the lake means that the biggest source of large keepers on the river is gone.

As an added bonus, you will be absolutely amazed at the size of the boats that run up and down that river. Some of them are bigger than anything you will see on the Potomac. Watch the wakes, particularly if the new boaters make the trip.
